Expert Fernando Montes de Oca, author of 'L'âge d'or du verre en France, 1800 - 1830', deems it a rare artistic feat, with the portrait skillfully executed in 'a cake of tripoli'. Glass is blown and applied post-heating, resulting in an opaque, grayish-white cast that mimics the chalcedony used in cameo production.
